Giant Ventures manages 60+ companies. When Giant first started in 2019, a Google Sheets ledger and company-by-company Excel cap tables were enough for tracking key metrics. However, as new funds launched and reporting needs multiplied, keeping everything aligned started consuming more time and effort.
The firm moved its portfolio data into Vestberry: valuations, cap tables, documents and historical events in one structured system. The platform feeds Giant's data warehouse through its API, powering dashboards and internal tools across the data-forward firm.
The first quarterly valuation run in Vestberry saved hours immediately, and the process has saved hundreds of hours since. Audits became simpler too, because the team can pull the exact portfolio position at any point in time instead of reconstructing it.
From an LP reporting perspective, Vestberry has become our operational backbone. It acts as the definitive data source for the information we need to reliably surface in investor reports. - Rob Hicks, CFO at Giant Ventures
About Giant Ventures
Giant Ventures is a transatlantic venture capital firm backing purpose-driven companies built with frontier technology. Investing across the US and Europe, the firm has backed more than 60 companies, including CuspAI, Calm, Radiant, Pano, Carbon Robotics, Doccla, RxDiet, Ataraxis and Flower.
At Giant, data is a strategic asset. Their technology philosophy is guided by a simple principle: "reuse products where possible, buy products where available, and build them where it creates competitive advantage." Proprietary data and the ability to structure and activate it are central to that advantage.
When manual systems stop scaling
Before adopting Vestberry, Giant's core portfolio information lived across Google Sheets, Excel files, shared folders and original investment documents.
This setup worked in the early stages, but as Giant launched new funds, onboarded investors with different reporting needs and expanded its portfolio, data complexity grew quickly. As the firm scaled, the data needed restructuring.
Before Vestberry, information lived across multiple spreadsheets, shared folders, and ad-hoc systems. Maintaining consistency and alignment required a disproportionate amount of manual effort. - Rob Hicks, CFO at Giant Ventures
What Giant Ventures needed from a platform
When evaluating solutions, Giant was looking for a system that could support long-term growth while reducing operational complexity.
Needs of a modern, data-driven VC:
- A source of truth for valuations, cap tables, documents and historical transactions
- A platform that accurately reflected how a VC firm operates
- The flexibility to integrate with internal tools and enable more advanced analytics over time
What stood out about Vestberry was that it felt purpose-built for venture capital, rather than a generic system adapted to fit. The workflows, data model and feature set mapped naturally to Giant's operating reality.
And while API capabilities were not the primary decision driver, Giant wanted a platform that respected their ability to own, export and build on top of their data. Vestberry's open attitude toward data access and ownership resonated strongly.
Vestberry's attitude toward us owning our underlying data stood out. We wanted to partner with a provider that was tech-forward and open about data access and export. - Ben Urwin, Senior Data Engineer at Giant Ventures
Implementing Vestberry in a live VC environment
Onboarding the team and loading historical data
Onboarding Vestberry required time, reflecting the scale and complexity of Giant's portfolio. Historical portfolio companies, investment rounds, ledger events and cap tables all needed to be structured and loaded.
Fortunately, Vestberry's implementation team supported the process with training sessions and hands-on assistance, including loading a portion of the portfolio data directly from Giant's existing spreadsheets and investment documents. This enabled Giant's team to quickly understand the structure and replicate the approach internally.
Integrating Vestberry into Giant's tech stack
Giant operates a sophisticated tech stack built around a central data warehouse. Multiple internal tools sit on top of this foundation, including dashboards for decision-making, internal products for sourcing and an agent for querying portfolio data.
Vestberry plays an important role within this ecosystem. Its structured portfolio data provides essential context that feeds downstream tools and analytics. Giant initially trialled the Vestberry Fivetran connection but quickly pivoted to the API connection to gain full control over the schema and freshness of Vestberry data in their warehouse.

Vestberry offers three ways to sync data from the platform into your own systems.
Vestberry API
Vestberry's API enables deep integration with existing systems. Best for funds with in-house data or engineering teams that want to pull exactly the data they need into custom tools, dashboards, and workflows.
Integrations with Make
Make offers a no-code way to sync data, trigger updates, and move information between systems. Best for teams that run on everyday operational tools rather than complex data architecture.
ETL Pipeline with Fivetran
Vestberry offers a pre-built ETL pipeline via Fivetran that extracts, transforms, and loads data automatically. Best for funds that want portfolio data in their warehouse without any engineering.
The results
100+ hours saved on quarterly valuations
Prior to Vestberry, Giant updated its valuation models manually in Excel. Now the team uses the Excel add-in to automatically pull the latest numbers from the valuation ledger in Vestberry. This cuts the time spent preparing the valuation workbook each quarter and reduces the chance of errors.
Running our quarterly valuation process end-to-end in Vestberry was our first major win, saving hours immediately. That process has since been replicated every quarter, saving hundreds of hours since implementation. - Rob Hicks, CFO at Giant Ventures
A single source of truth and easier audits
All key information, from valuations and funding rounds to cap tables and KPIs, now lives in one place. This reduced the potential for errors, sped up work with data, and made audits more predictable.
For audits in particular, having a single, clearly structured source of truth has been transformative. The ability to view the exact portfolio position at any point in time has been invaluable for historical verification. - Rob Hicks, CFO at Giant Ventures

An operational backbone for LP reporting
Vestberry now powers Giant's entire reporting workflow. Validated data flows into reporting models through the Excel integration, while the API feeds automated dashboards and analytics. Time previously spent compiling data is now spent analysing it.
Today, Vestberry is the portfolio data foundation that supports the rest of Giant Ventures' tech stack. The team can trust the numbers, find what they need quickly, and build on top of it as the firm grows.
