Tiago Caruso

VP of Investment Data Science @ Goodwater Capital

Tiago is originally from Brazil; he went to the US to pursue his Ph.D.in Economics under a Fulbright Scholarship. He spent three years building machine learning models for Uber’s pricing team. For the last three years, he has been at Goodwater Capital, a VC firm in Silicon Valley, bringing ML into consumer-tech investments. Currently, he is the VP of Data Science, leading the Investment team. When not working, Tiago loves taking his kids to the zoo, meditation, and ultra-running.

Yiliang Zhao

Director, Data Science @ Openspace Ventures

Yiliang has over 12 years of experience in managing and developing end-to-end machine learning projects from ideation to production. At Openspace, he leads the data science team and advises portfolio companies on improving their AI and machine learning strategies to accelerate growth. He also plays an important role in assessing new opportunities from a data science perspective. Previously, he was with Google as their J/APAC Machine Learning Practice Lead, where he oversaw the regional ML practice and ML pipelines and managed training/enablement programs/initiatives. He is actively exploring Muay Thai and Weiqi (Go) in his spare time.

Pedram Birounvand

Director – Head of Data @ EQT Partners

Previously, Pedram worked as Head of Business Intelligence at Spotify, where he was responsible for automating and streamlining financial reporting, which was an essential building block for the IPO. After Spotify, Pedram began a career as a consultant in Analytics at EQT. He helped EQT’s portfolio companies to build solid architecture and organization strategies, to enable scale and speed to meet the investment’s full potential plan. After EQT filed for an IPO, Pedram took on a new role where he was responsible for streamlining and digitizing internal group functions such as Finance, HR, Tax, Legal, and Business Development. Now Pedram is Heading the Data function within EQT, where he is responsible for all data technologies and data management initiatives.

Alvaro Arranz

Head of Finance @ Outlier Ventures

Alvaro Arranz is the Head of Finance at Outlier Ventures. Alvaro works closely with the Managing Director and the broader management team providing strategic and financial guidance and ensuring financial commitments are met. He joined Outlier Ventures after having led several startups in both IoT and EdTech sectors. He has successfully managed Series A and B fund rounds and has secured both company acquisitions and senior debt funds. Having worked in the U.S., Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Middle East and Europe, Alvaro brings the perfect mix of experience and knowledge to lead the Finance Team. Before joining Outlier Ventures, Alvaro founded multiple startups, including a small digital business (Digitt) and an e-commerce platform (mechifla.com).
